Mtukudzi to feature in film

Published: Jan 1, 2010 by admin Filed under: News

MUSIC superstar Oliver Mtukudzi says he will star in his fourth feature film in 2010 and also plans to record an album featuring duets with musicians from other African countries.

The movie titled Sarawoga is based on a novel by the same name whose main theme centres on African power struggles in pre-colonial times.

The film gives a clear picture of how the undiluted African culture was and the important advisory roles played by ancestral spirits to the traditional leadership.

“I am currently working on the original sound track for the film that should be done by the end of this year and we premiere next year,” Mtukudzi announced on his website.

Tuku, as Mtukudzi is popularly known by his fans, has starred in three feature films since his 1990 movie debut appearance in Jit, a film about a young man who tries every trick in the book in his attempt to win the heart of the most beautiful girl in his town.

The Zimbabwean star revealed plans to record an album featuring artists from Zimbabwe, Kenya, South Africa and Zambia.
Some of the duets are with Kenya’s Wainana and Owiyo, Ringo Madhlingozi of South Africa, Maureen Lilanda of Zambia, and Zimbabwe’s Willom Tight and Pastor Bonnie.

“I am re-recording some of the songs on the album with an internationally renowned acappella group and a diva from somewhere in South Africa,” Mtukudzi said.

The album will be titled Abiyangu, which means friends in the Shona language. African Press Agency

BUCHAREST, Romania - At first, fans politely applauded the Roma performers sharing a stage with Madonna. Then the pop star condemned widespread discrimination against Roma, or Gypsies — and the cheers gave way to jeers.

The sharp mood change that swept the crowd of 60,000, who had packed a park for Wednesday night's concert, underscores how prejudice against Gypsies remains deeply entrenched across Eastern Europe.

Despite long-standing efforts to stamp out rampant bias, human rights advocates say Roma probably suffer more humiliation and endure more discrimination than any other people group on the continent.

Just one week before he's officially sentenced following the plea deal he struck in the Rihanna case, Chris Brown appeared at ease as he joined Keri Hilson in Los Angeles on the set of what is apparently Hilson's next video, "Slow Down."

The pair were joined by plenty of musical company: Omarion, Monica, Polow Da Don and Pussycat Doll Melody Thornton were all also on set.
